Dr Bueter now works as a Consultant Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

Marco developed a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) rat model which served as the basis for his investigations of energy intake and expenditure, and has published several studies on the topic. His findings demonstrate that RYGB changes food perception and thus eating behavior, as well as preventing the expected decrease in energy expenditure subsequent to weight loss in diet-induced obese rats. These results offer an additional explanation as to why RYGB surgery is superior to dieting for long-term weight loss maintenance. Dr Bueter’s findings significantly contribute to the elucidation of underlying mechanisms of obesity surgery and to the development of new therapies that are less dangerous than, but equally effective as, surgical treatment.
