Fellowship

SCOPE Fellowship is the most prestigious award we offer, recognising outstanding healthcare professionals in the field of obesity management.

World Obesity Federation - SCOPE

SCOPE recognises the importance and expertise of healthcare professionals in the field of obesity management by awarding SCOPE Fellowship at a National or International Level. 

National Fellows are experts of national or regional renown in the field of obesity management, while International Fellows are world-class experts in the field of obesity management, identified by a SCOPE search committee.

SCOPE Fellowships are renewable every three years.

  • Minimum five years' clinical experience in management of patients with overweight or obesity
  • Training in a medical or allied healthcare profession relating to obesity management
  • Demonstrate a leading role on a regional level in promoting obesity management
  • Demonstrate promotion of improvement in obesity management through membership of a regional guideline committee
  • Willing to organise regional clinical meetings and related activities
  • Willing to contribute to SCOPE activities 
  • At least five international peer-reviewed publications on obesity or obesity-related diseases, preferably including clinical issues published over the last five years, or 10 papers on obesity or obesity-related diseases with no time limit
  • Member, or willing to become a member, of a World Obesity affiliated national association
  • SCOPE Certification
  • Minimum 10 years' clinical experience in management of patients with overweight or obesity
  • Training in a medical or allied healthcare profession relating to obesity management
  • High-level engagement in scientific activities, including participation and presentation at internationally renowned and recognized courses and congresses
  • Willing to contribute material for one SCOPE E-Learning module annually
  • At least 10 international, peer-reviewed publications on obesity or obesity-related diseases, preferably published within the past five years, or 20 papers on obesity or obesity-related diseases with no time limit
  • Member, or willing to become a member, of a World Obesity affiliated national association
  • Elected by nomination from SCOPE Fellows or by invitation of the Clinical Care Committee

National Fellowship

SCOPE National Fellowship is valid for three years, after which it can be renewed provided that at least one of the criteria below has been fulfilled in the Fellow’s current term:

  • Volunteered as a speaker/faculty member at a SCOPE School or other SCOPE Accredited event
  • Developed the programme for a SCOPE School or other SCOPE Accredited event
  • Authored, or co-authored, a SCOPE E-Learning module

In addition, the Fellow must have up-to-date SCOPE Certification (renewed over the past 12 months) to renew their National Fellowship.

International Fellowship

SCOPE International Fellowship is valid for three years, after which it can be renewed provided that at least two of the criteria below have been fulfilled in the Fellow’s current term:

  • Volunteered as a speaker/faculty member at a SCOPE School or other SCOPE Accredited event
  • Developed the programme for a SCOPE School or other SCOPE Accredited event
  • Authored, or co-authored, a SCOPE E-Learning module
  • Authored, or co-authored, an article in one of World Obesity’s official journals (Obesity Reviews, Clinical Obesity, Pediatric Obesity or Obesity Science and Practice)

In addition, the Fellow must have up-to-date SCOPE Certification (renewed over the past 12 months) to renew their International Fellowship.

N.B. Active members of World Obesity's Clinical Care Committee who are also SCOPE Fellows are entitled to review their Fellowship status without fulfilling the above criteria.

The application fee is £200 for citizens of high-income countries and £100 for citizens of low-and-middle income countries, as defined by the World Bank.
