SCOPE School Malaysia 2026
Oct 10, 2026SCOPE School Malaysia 2026 is a one-day educational programme on evidence-based obesity management. It is organised by Universiti Malaya, in collaboration with the Malaysian Obesity Society (MYOS) and the Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO).
The programme is part of the World Obesity Federation's Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE), an internationally recognised programme that delivers practical, evidence-based training in obesity care. It complements the SCOPE E-Learning modules and contributes points towards SCOPE Certification.
The programme brings together leading local and international experts in obesity medicine. It takes a practical, multidisciplinary approach to obesity care, covering clinical assessment, behavioural and lifestyle interventions, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery, mental health, sleep disorders and weight stigma. It also includes hands-on interactive workshops.
Who should attend?
SCOPE School Malaysia 2026 is for healthcare professionals with an interest in obesity management, including:
- General practitioners and primary care physicians
- Specialists involved in obesity care
- Allied health professionals, including dietitians, nurses, pharmacists and psychologists
Learning outcomes
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Understand the rising burden of obesity in Malaysia and the environmental factors driving it
- Apply the principle of obesity as a chronic disease in clinical assessment and practice
- Recognise why obesity interventions often fail, and how to improve outcomes for patients
- Understand current and emerging pharmacotherapy options, and the role of bariatric surgery
- Identify and address mental health disorders and sleep disorders in people living with obesity
- Recognise weight stigma and reduce its impact on the delivery of care
- Support people living with obesity to maintain weight loss and protect long-term health gains
