Welcoming six new member organisations
We are delighted to welcome several outstanding organisations as new members.
Each brings a unique focus and regional expertise, united by a shared commitment to tackling obesity and improving public health.
We have three organisations joining us from Italy: Associazione Medici Endocrinologi (AME), Associazione Medici Diabetologi (AMD); and the Italian Association of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition (ADI), Then we have Eminence Associates for Social Development in Bangladesh, Fundación Los Fresnos – Casa de la Diabetes (Ecuador) and Emirates Diabetes and Endocrinology Society (Dubai).
AME ETS is Italy’s foremost association for clinical endocrinologists, fostering research, education, and advocacy since its founding. With 2,800 members, AME has led efforts in hormone-related health issues and recently expanded its public education initiatives on topics like iodine deficiency and metabolic diseases. Under the leadership of Dr. Renato Cozzi, the organisation brings strong expertise in obesity-related endocrinology.

Founded in 1974, AMD is Italy’s largest scientific society for diabetes care, with over 2,000 members. AMD has shown a strong commitment to addressing obesity as a comorbidity of type 2 diabetes, especially under the leadership of Professor Riccardo Candido. Their national initiatives, such as the AMD Annals project and comprehensive guidelines on diabetes care, exemplify a strong evidence-based approach.

The Italian Association of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition (ADI), headquartered in Rome, is a national leader in nutrition education, clinical dietetics, and public health advocacy. With 1,600 members, ADI is known for championing the Mediterranean diet and advancing clinical guidelines for obesity treatment. Its leadership, including Dr Barbara Paolini and Dr Carmela Bagnato, brings a wealth of expertise and dedication to evidence-based care.

Eminence Associates for Social Development is a Bangladesh-based nonprofit advancing public health through research, advocacy, and community engagement. Led by Dr Shamim Hayder Talukder, the organisation focuses on non-communicable disease prevention, including obesity, and promotes health equity through multi-sectoral partnerships. Their evidence-based approach makes them a valuable ally in tackling obesity across South Asia.

Operating out of Cuenca, Ecuador, Fundación Los Fresnos - Casa de la Diabetes has spent over two decades transforming diabetes care and prevention. Through educational fairs, bioimpedance testing, and broad community outreach, the foundation has become a regional leader in chronic disease management and is now expanding its efforts to include obesity prevention.

Based in Dubai, the Emirates Diabetes and Endocrinology Society (EDES) leads national efforts in diabetes and endocrine care through research, education, and advocacy. Under Dr Abdul Razzak Al Madani’s leadership, EDES is expanding its focus on obesity as a key metabolic challenge and collaborates widely to improve outcomes across the UAE and beyond.
