SCOPE Hybrid Masterclass: Successful obesity care training in China
The newly introduced SCOPE Hybrid Masterclass, a series designed to deliver high-quality, evidence-based obesity care to healthcare professionals, was successfully delivered in December across four cities in China.
The SCOPE Hybrid Masterclass is a new, focused 3-hour programme, combining in-person and online learning, designed to support clinicians to deliver high-quality, evidence-based obesity care. It forms part of SCOPE – World Obesity’s internationally recognised education programme that provides accredited, practical training in obesity management.
The inaugural Hybrid Masterclass was held from 11 – 17 December across four cities in China: Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Across these four hybrid sessions, the Masterclass drew in 713 attendees from diverse regions across the country, amplifying national knowledge dissemination.

Participants benefitted from global best practice tailored to the country context, supported by both international SCOPE faculty and leading local experts. The comprehensive agenda featured discussions on the science of obesity, lifestyle and nutrition approaches, pharmacotherapy, and surgical and clinical pathways, as well as an interactive case study. Participants were awarded 3 SCOPE Points for face-to-face attendance and 1.5 SCOPE Points for online attendance.
Surveyed attendees stated that their confidence in managing patients living with obesity increased as a result of the Masterclass, and praised the new format: “Very good, being able to consistently access more cutting-edge information is even better,” “This combination of online and offline formats is great,” “The programme is excellent overall and no adjustments are needed!”
