SCOPE School China
Aug 14, 2025The World Obesity Federation and the China Obesity Federation are co-hosting the second SCOPE School in Beijing, which will be held prior to the China Obesity Congress (COC).
This event responds to the rising prevalence of obesity across China. This event addresses the growing obesity epidemic in China — reduced physical activity in cities, increased processed food consumption, and cultural shifts toward sedentary behaviours. As a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers, obesity requires urgent and context-specific clinical attention. This programme brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, media professionals, and individuals with lived experience to explore holistic, multidisciplinary strategies for obesity care.
Through expert-led sessions delivered in Mandarin with English translation, the agenda covers the biology and pathobiology of obesity, psychological and dietary interventions, pharmacotherapy, and surgical approaches — ensuring participants gain practical, evidence-based insights tailored to the Chinese clinical landscape.
By the end of the School, you will:
- Understand the challenges in obesity management within China’s healthcare and cultural context.
- Be aware of the potential complications and staging of obesity and its impact on patient health.
- Be familiar with clinical assessments, including history taking and physical activity recommendations specific to the Chinese population.
- Appreciate approaches for personalised and patient-centred obesity management, including psychological assessments and dietary interventions.
- Be equipped to address weight bias and stigma, recognising its effects on patient experience and care outcomes.
- Be better prepared to discuss medical and surgical interventions for obesity, understanding the latest advances in pharmacotherapy and procedural approaches.

Target audience
Healthcare professionals working in clinical practice, including primary care medical practitioners, endocrinologists, nurses, pharmacists, nutrition physicians, dietitians, physiotherapists, psychologists, surgeons specialising in metabolic and bariatric surgery, researchers, public health professionals.
This event is free to attend but delegates will be required to arrange their own travel and accommodation.
