This SCOPE Hybrid Masterclass is a focused 3-hour programme designed to support clinicians in China to deliver high-quality, evidence-based obesity care.

Delivered by the World Obesity Federation in close collaboration with the China Obesity Federation, it forms part of SCOPE – World Obesity’s internationally recognised education programme that provides accredited, practical training in obesity management. Through this partnership, participants will benefit from global best practice tailored to the Chinese context, supported by both international SCOPE faculty and leading local experts.

Target audience

Endocrinologists, internists and primary care physicians, bariatric and metabolic surgeons, clinical nutrition specialists and dietitians, psychologists, psychiatrists and allied health professionals involved in obesity care, trainees and early-career clinicians with an interest in obesity management.

Learning objectives

By the end of the Masterclass, participants will be able to:

  • Describe current global and Chinese trends in obesity prevalence and prevention
  • Apply the chronic disease model of obesity in routine clinical practice
  • Integrate lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity strategies tailored to Chinese populations
  • Understand indications, benefits and limitations of available anti-obesity medications in China
  • Outline referral criteria and expected outcomes for metabolic/bariatric surgery
  • Develop individualised, multi-disciplinary management plans through case-based learning

Each city programme will be co-chaired by an international SCOPE faculty member and leading local experts.

SCOPE points and certification

  • Face-to-face attendance: 3 SCOPE Points
  • Online attendance: 1.5 SCOPE Points

To work towards SCOPE Certification, you should first complete the Core Learning Path—an 8-module essentials course in obesity management, with tiered pricing based on country income and an additional 25% discount for World Obesity members. The Core Learning Path provides 4 SCOPE Points, after which you will need 8 more points (from supplementary modules, CVD and childhood obesity learning paths, SCOPE Schools and/or SCOPE Accredited courses) to reach the 12 points required for full SCOPE Certification.
