About the Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo da Obesidade (SPEO)

Founded in 1989, the Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity (SPEO) , headquartered in Lisbon, has as its main objective to promote research and dissemination of knowledge related to obesity and related aspects, with relevance to society and the scientific community (e.g., epidemiology, eating behaviour and physical activity, medical complications, etc.).

The organisation of scientific meetings, particularly the Portuguese Congress on Obesity , plays a key role in SPEO's scope of action and many of its resources are dedicated to this annual event. SPEO also ensures national representation of scientific societies and related international organisations dedicated to the subject of obesity, such as the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the World Obesity Federation (WOF).
