Congratulations to Dr Alvin Mondoh and Dr Dimitris Papamargaritis, the newest recipients of the prestigious SCOPE National Fellowship.


Both doctors have been recognised for their outstanding work and expertise as healthcare professionals in the field of obesity management. Read more about their work and experience below.

SCOPE Fellowship

Dr Alvin Mondoh is a family physician based in Dublin. He works in a community-based weight management clinic, supporting patients to achieve sustainable weight loss, improve metabolic health, and reduce obesity-related complications through evidence-based, patient-centred care.

Dr Mondoh graduated with an MD from Warsaw Medical University and completed his Family Medicine residency at Aga Khan University in East Africa. He subsequently undertook further training in metabolic medicine and diabetes through the University of South Wales, as well as training in women’s health at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

Alongside his clinical work,  he is the founder and co-host of the weekly Spotify podcast “Hot and Hungry”, which promotes wellness and healthy living while challenging stigma and bias associated with obesity.

SCOPE Fellowship

Dr Dimitris Papamargaritis is Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group. He is Lead Clinician for the Young Type 2 Diabetes and High BMI multidisciplinary service at Kettering General Hospital, leading the development of integrated care pathways linking primary, secondary and specialist services, improving access to evidence-based obesity treatments and supporting early intervention for high-risk patients.

He holds several national and international leadership roles in obesity medicine. He is a National Clinical Fellow of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), an operational member of the Association for the Study of Obesity (ASO), and has served as national lead for the ASO Centres for Obesity Management (COMs). He is also a member of the Academic Committee of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and co-founded the ABCD Diabetes Update Programme, a national training initiative supporting specialist trainees in diabetes and endocrinology.

Dr Dimitris Papamargaritis has contributed as a clinical expert to national guidance on emerging obesity pharmacotherapies. His research focuses on the mechanisms and clinical implementation of contemporary obesity therapies, including pharmacological and metabolic surgical treatments, with a particular emphasis on translating clinical trial evidence into real-world NHS practice. He has served as Chief Investigator and co-investigator on multiple funded clinical studies and has published widely in obesity pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery and integrated metabolic care.

Dr Alvin Mondoh has a strong interest in patient-focused qualitative research in obesity and metabolic health, with a focus on improving understanding of patient experiences and decision-making in obesity care. He is a committee member of the Association for the Study of Obesity in Ireland (ASOI), and is dedicated to advancing compassionate, evidence-based care for people living with obesity.


SCOPE Fellowship is the most prestigious award offered by SCOPE, recognising outstanding healthcare professionals in the field of obesity management.

National Fellows are experts of national or regional renown who have made a significant contribution to obesity medicine in their country.
