SCOPE National Fellowship awarded to Dr Luiz F. Viola
Congratulations to Dr Luiz F. Viola, the newest recipient of the prestigious SCOPE National Fellowship.
Dr Luiz F. Viola is an endocrinologist and physician specialising in obesity medicine, clinical nutrition, and metabolic health, with a strong focus on integrating evidence-based clinical care with research and education. His work centres on the comprehensive management of obesity and its complications, including pharmacotherapy and multidisciplinary approaches to long-term care.
Dr Viola is a member of the Scientific Department of ABESO (Associação Brasileira para o Estudo da Obesidade e da Síndrome Metabólica), contributing to scientific initiatives and knowledge translation in obesity care in Brazil.
He has held academic teaching roles in Brazil, including as a professor at the Federal University of Rondonópolis, and has contributed to medical education and training to strengthen standards in endocrinology and obesity management.
Dr Viola’s research interests include clinical outcomes of obesity interventions and the impact of weight stigma on health, access to care, and patient experience. Among his recent contributions is collaborative work published in The Lancet on weight stigma in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting regional challenges and priorities for policy, healthcare systems, and clinical practice.
