SCOPE National Fellowship awarded to Dr Abdulhameed Alhazmi
Congratulations to Dr Abdulhameed Alhazmi who has been awarded the prestigious SCOPE National Fellowship, recognising his outstanding work in obesity care.
Dr. Abdulhameed Alhazmi is an endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Fellow at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, and a consultant at Jazan University Hospital in Saudi Arabia. He is one of the founders and clinical leaders of the Obesity Service at Jazan University Hospital.
He completed his Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at King Abdulaziz Medical City, within National Guard Health Affairs in Riyadh, and is board certified in Internal Medicine from King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Jeddah
Dr. Alhazmi’s academic work focuses on emerging concepts in obesity science, particularly in the cardiovascular–kidney–metabolic spectrum, food noise, emerging pharmacotherapy and obesity in type 1 diabetes.
He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including on the implications of food noise and the safe use of GLP-1 based therapies. His research interests also extend to clinical trials in obesity and cardiometabolic disease, where he is involved as a study coordinator in major international trials.

Beyond academia, he is passionate about bridging science and public understanding of obesity, particularly within Arabic-speaking communities. His work aims to reframe obesity as a complex, chronic disease and to improve access to high-quality, culturally relevant care.
