SCOPE International Fellowship awarded to Dr Stavros Liatis
We are pleased to announce that Dr Stavros Liatis, Greece, was awarded a SCOPE International Fellowship in 2024.
Dr Liatis graduated from Athens University Medical School in 1989. He received board certification in Internal Medicine in 1999 and completed his thesis at the University of Athens Medical School in 2004. Additionally, he pursued specialised training in Diabetology, Diabetic Foot, and Obesity between 1999 and 2001 in Athens, Greece.
From 2003 to 2023, Dr Liatis served as a Consultant in Internal Medicine and Diabetology at the Diabetes, Obesity, and Diabetic Foot outpatient clinic at Laiko University Hospital in Athens, Greece. Currently, he practices in the private sector, leveraging his extensive experience and expertise.
Dr Liatis' primary research interests revolve around clinical diabetes epidemiology, obesity epidemiology, prediabetes, and the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
He has made significant contributions to the field, with 138 papers published in peer-reviewed journals indexed at MEDLINE, boasting a citation count of 5035 and an h-index of 31. Furthermore, he has authored several chapters in textbooks covering clinical diabetes, diabetic foot, diabetes prevention, and obesity.
Dr Liatis has participated as a co-investigator in seven large multinational epidemiological studies, funded by the European Union, focusing on diabetes and diabetes prevention. Additionally, he has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous phase II, III, and IV clinical trials funded by the pharmaceutical industry, primarily in the fields of diabetes and obesity.
Dr Liatis holds the position of Head Section Editor in the field of Epidemiology for the journal 'Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes & Healthcare'. Moreover, he has actively contributed to various professional organisations, having chaired the steering committee of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) from 2016 to 2018. He has also served as a member of the steering committee of the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity (2015-2017), and the Hellenic Diabetes Society from 2013 to 2015, and again from 2018 to 2021.
