2025 in review: The Mexican Obesity Society (SMO)
This year, the Mexican Obesity Society (SMO) hosted a wide range of successful and educational events and activities.
The SMO is the leading non-profit obesity medical association in Mexico, dedicated exclusively to continuous medical education for healthcare professionals, including clinicians, researchers, students, and educators. Working towards their goal of improving the quality of life for individuals living with obesity through a better scientific understanding of its causes and consequences, in 2025 the SMO organised monthly educational events, the Congreso Internacional de Obesidad (CIO) 2025, and a number of World Obesity Day activities.
Webinars
Over the course of 2025, the SMO delivered a series of 12 webinars designed for healthcare professionals specialising in obesity. Each session addressed key clinical aspects of the disease and its associated conditions, providing updated scientific evidence and practical strategies for a multidisciplinary approach to care. The programme featured leading national and international experts in obesity. Through this initiative, the SMO reinforces its commitment to continuous medical education and the dissemination of evidence-based information in Mexico.
The monthly webinar series organised by the SMO was designed for healthcare professionals interested in the clinical management of obesity and its associated conditions. Each webinar gathered approximately 300 live attendees and featured two scientific presentations: one focused on medical updates and the other on nutritional approaches.
Every session also included a dedicated Q&A segment, allowing participants to exchange insights, discuss challenging cases, and engage in professional networking. This ongoing educational initiative highlights SMO’s commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based training and fostering a multidisciplinary community of clinicians working to improve obesity care in Mexico.
Academic Sessions
Broadcast via the platform of the School of Medicine at UANL, the SMO also conducted 11 monthly academic sessions throughout 2025. These sessions focused on clinical and multidisciplinary topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of obesity.
Aimed at healthcare professionals, they offered up-to-date scientific content and practical tools for comprehensive care. At the end of the annual program, participants will receive a certificate with curricular value.
