2025 in review: Obesidades

News2025 in review: Obesidades

This year, Obesidades extended their online presence with a social media campaign for World Obesity Day, created a new blog, and further updated their healthcare professional locator tool.

Obesidades is a non-profit community based in Mexico City, created and led by people living with obesity and health care professionals. Our mission is for obesity to be recognized as a chronic multifactorial disease, eliminate weight stigma, provide training and facilitate access to evidence-based treatment.

World Obesity Day

In 2025, to commemorate World Obesity Day, we launched in our social media an awareness campaign called ‘Dale peso a tu voz’ addressing the causes of obesity, what really matters in its treatment and the consequences of experiencing weight stigma from healthcare professionals.

Blog

We also created a blog on our website to share downloadable material for people living with obesity, family members, and healthcare professionals. The material addresses a wide range of topics including the causes of obesity, evidence-based treatment, weight bias, weight stigma, treatment adherence, obesity medications, bariatric surgery, internalized weight stigma, weight regain, how to talk about weight with children and adolescence, among others.

2026

On 1 March 2026, we will hold our annual walk to commemorate World Obesity Day in Mexico City. We look forward to seeing you there!

We have other exciting projects coming soon. We are developing a stigma-free image bank with Mexican people living with obesity, which we hope will contribute to change the visual narrative of obesity especially in the media, but can also be used by healthcare professionals, the public and other Latin American societies. A new podcast series is also in the early development stages, so stay tuned!

We are excited to continue changing the narrative of obesity in 2026, join us!
