2025 in review: Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC)
In 2025, the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) facilitated two key events, reinforcing their commitment to promoting healthy food policies.
HCC commits to media engagement in advancing Healthy Nutrition Food Policy
From August 18–20, 2025, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s 36th Media Awards (CMA) featured themed categories on “Healthy Nutrition Food Policy,” sponsored by HCC (with support from Global Health Advocacy Incubator). HCC sponsored both Print and Television awards — the Print category for the third consecutive year and Television for the second.
Winners (from Jamaica and Barbados) received bursaries to create further health-focused content. HCC also co-hosted a “Partners Showcase” during the CMA assembly in Barbados, covering travel for a delegate and reaffirming its commitment to leveraging the media to promote healthy nutrition policies and NCD prevention across the Caribbean.
HCC Hosted 'Addressing the Commercial Determinants of NCDs in Caribbean SIDS - Protecting NCD policymaking from conflicts of interest and undue influence'
From October 15–17, 2025, the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC), with support from PAHO and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator, hosted the regional meeting Addressing the Commercial Determinants of NCDs in Caribbean SIDS. The meeting aimed to increase regional capacity to protect NCD policymaking from conflicts of interest and undue influence by vested commercial actors. Over 70 participants convened in Barbados from 12 CARICOM countries, representing government ministries, civil society, regional agencies including PAHO, CARPHA, OECS, CARICOM, and UWI, as well as the private sector. Next steps include co-developing COI tools for health and related ministries, CSOs, and regional follow-up.
