Professor Stephan Jacob

Stephan Jacob is an internist, endocrinologist, diabetelogist, nutrition specialist and clinical hypertension specialist. He has recently set up a cardio-metabolic institute in Villingen-Schwenningen in Germany. Prior to this, Stephan was head of the Albert Schweitzer Klinik in Konigsfeld in Germany, a centre for cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation. Stephan has also been part of the Hypertension and Diabetes Research Unit at the Buhlerhohe and was a Senior Consultant at the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Pathno-biochemistry, University of Tubingen, Germany. Stephan’s research interests include the pathogenesis of diabetes and insulin resistance with a special interest in intramyocellelar lipids and their role in insulin sensitivity, insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease. Stephen also has an interest in early diagnosis and prevention of insulin resistance and is involved in a population based cross sectional study to detect metabolic abnormalities in healthy project. In addition Stephan is also involved in several clinical trails looking at pharmacological intervention in obesity, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and hypertension. Professor Jacob is a speaker of the working group for diabetes and hypertension of the German Diabetes Association and is a member of the scientific board of the Adipositas Zentrum Sudwest, Stiftung Herzkranker Diabetiker. He is the vice president of the German obesity foundation, regional representative of the German Hypertension League and is a member of the Education and Management Task Force of World Obesity (formerly IASO) as well as being the National coordinator of the SCOPE programme in Germany. Since 1993 Stephan has been involved in the European Group on insulin resistance.
