The World Obesity Federation represents professional members of the scientific, medical and research communities from over 50 regional and national obesity associations. Through our membership we create a global community of organisations dedicated to solving the problems of obesity.
 
Our mission is to lead and drive global efforts to reduce, prevent and treat obesity.

Policy Fellow 

One Year Fixed-term contract

The World Obesity Federation is seeking a one-year Policy Fellow who will work with the current team to ensure our policy deliverables are met, with a particular focus on:

  • Building World Obesity’s policy work in LMICs and non-member countries, particularly in relation to advocacy goals around Universal Health Coverage, the Global Syndemic of obesity, undernutrition and climate change, and the prevention of childhood obesity;
  • Developing World Obesity’s engagement and relationships with UN Missions;
  • Undertaking policy-orientated research and data analysis as required;
  • Being a spokesperson for WOF at events and in the media.
  • Reviewing statements on behalf of WOF staff and volunteers to ensure alignment with WOF positions

The successful applicant must have a post-graduate degree and be able to show:

  • Understanding of UHC and national health systems, including in LMICs
  • Knowledge of NCDs, nutrition or related health systems

The successful candidate may also have:

  • Experience of working with UN institutions and country missions;
  • Experience working in a non-governmental organisation.
  • Fluency in one additional language strongly desired

  • Development of our UHC messaging for national contexts, especially in LMIC countries
  • Development of our UHC messaging for our member organisations and fellow NGOs
  • UN UNGA/HLM and UNICEF engagement
  • UN Missions engagement
  • Codex engagement
  • Planning for 2020 EB and WHA
  • Global Syndemic Action Plan input and messaging
  • Follow-up to the WOF-WHO child obesity report

Events and presentations

  • UNGA in September
  • India event in October
  • Gulf events
  • Support for and input to CEO and Executive Committee member presentations and articles

Policy consultations and statements

  • Drafting and Collaboration on WOF statements
  • Briefing papers and positions

Social media, team meetings, budget responsibilities

  • At discretion

Scientific papers and manuscript reviews

  • At discretion
  • London based, with ability to travel internationally
  • One year fixed term contact (extension applicable where funding allows). 
  • 25 days annual leave, 10% employer / 3% employee pension scheme after qualifying period of three months, flexible hours with core hours between 10AM and 4PM, interest-free travel loan

Salary range

  • £45,000 - £50,000 per year dependent on experience

We are expecting to close applications for this role on the 24th February 2019, witha start date as soon as possible. The closing date may be earlier dependent upon whether the right candidate is found.
