Contract Type: Full Time
Salary: £27,500 - £32,000

This role combines a traditional Membership Coordinator role with the addition of helping run a global cause day, World Obesity Day. The role will be pivotal in supporting a small and motivated team in many areas of work.

The World Obesity Federation (WOF) is headquartered in London with member organisations in more than 100 countries.World Obesity represents stakeholders in high-, medium- and low-income countries, including experts, advocates, patients and practitioners. It is a lead partner to global agencies on obesity, including the World Health Organization (WHO) – with which it has formal consultative status, approved by the World Health Assembly – and a founding member of Global Obesity Coalition with WHO and UNICEF. The World Obesity Federation takes a holistic view of obesity from cause and prevention to treatment.

World Obesity represents organisations in more than 100 countries and is a global authority in obesity education, data, and advocacy.  At the same time it is managed by a small team, including remote staff and with trusted consutlants and partners.  Volunteer experts play a central role in shaping and guiding work in education and advocacy, and in governance via a 15-member Board led by a President and with delegated authority of an annual workplan. 

This position will lead on member communications and management, as well as the campaign management for World Obesity Day. Main responsibilities will include managing the day to day membership provision for the organisation, acting as Project Manager for World Obesity Day, leading on campaign resource development, liaising with members and chairing the Global Advisory Group.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide full spectrum support for our Members
  • Project Manage World Obesity Day
  • Build and cultivate trusted relationships with members and other stakeholders
  • Work closely with the Communications Team to develop and deliver an aligned strategy across our Communications

Campaigns:

  • Act as Project Manager for World Obesity Day (WOD)
  • Manage external agencies used (design, PR) for the campaign work and be primary point person for all activity
  • Lead on resource development
  • Chair the Global Advisory Group
  • Oversee translation of appropriate WOD materials, according to priority languages set in Strategic Plan
  • Sourcing vlogs, blogs or other content pieces, from experts, people living with obesity, community leaders, educators, etc.
  • Work with Communications Manager to ensure WOD website is updated and curated
  • Involve the lived experience community and Youth in outputs related to WOD
  • Encourage new members in target areas, through WOD work
  • Support the Communications and Partnerships Manager in fundraising activities linked to WOD
  • Finding powerful and respected voices to help the campaign (experts, celebrities, etc.)
  • Lead on Impact report writing and post-event surveys
  • Lead campaign development workshop with members and partners
  • Develop content and produce WOD newsletters
  • Connect members with each other to encourage collaboration and learning across countries
  • Gather information from members on country activities and share with network and within WOF team

Membership:

  • Work with member organisations to advance their interests in obesity prevention and management, collecting best practices and sharing resources
  • Maintain strong working relationships with WOF members to increase interactions and encourage their participation in WOFs main activities and campaigns
  • Ensure members receive the service and benefits they expect – measured periodically by surveys
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure WOF delivers services and products to members
  • Help with new member applications, particularly due diligence process and research of applicant organisation
  • Manage meetings and activities relating to membership (including meetings at regional and global level)
  • Find new members in priority disease areas or geographies, as informed by 3 Year Strategy.
  • Work with Communications Manager to deliver social media activity with members
  • Ensure an efficient welcome process for new members
  • Liaise with the Finance team to ensure timely billing and collection of member dues
  • Help document and promote the activity of national and regional WOF members.
  • Maintain email list (Membership Outreach, Patient Outreach, Youth Outreach) and Pardot lists.
  • Update Lived experience and youth advocates lists and send periodic emails with relevant opportunities.
  • Regular updates of membership statistics and data on Salesforce, alongside Head of Governance & Membership.
  • Work with Communications team to develop the member section of our website to make it an informative, engaging, interactive and supportive hub for our members.
  • Possible travel to priority countries to help with capacity building, advocacy and building relationships with our members.
  • Experience working in brand, communications, marketing and/or campaigns work
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of using a CRM system
  • Creative flair, with an eye for detail. Any design experience desirable
  • Fluent in English with strong written communication skills
  • Excellent spoken communication and interpersonal skills
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willing to travel internationally
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation
  • Experience working in small organisations, and with staff working remotely
  • Additional languages spoken and written at intermediate or advanced level
  • Experience of Salesforce, Canva
