Functional Body Composition and Related Aspects in Research on Obesity and Cachexia

Venue: Hamburg Marriott Hotel
ABC Strasse 52, Hamburg, 20354, Germany

Although anatomy is central to the study of medicine, only recently has the relationship between body structure-composition and metabolic-functional characteristics come into research focus as part of modern integrative physiology. Important advances have been made over the past two decades in body composition research and in modeling the physiological impact of individual body components. Starting with the detailed and accurate in vivo characterization of different body components, body composition research is now focussing on dynamic changes in body composition as determinants of intermediary metabolism, hormone secretion and inflammation. Individual body components are under hormonal and genetic control and they are affected by the environment, lifestyle, and disease.

The 12th Stock Conference focused on the cross talk between organs and tissues and discussion topics explored if there are disturbancies and similarities in between-organ/tissue cross talk in obesity and cachexia.
